Our Place in the World is an area of unique natural beauty. We
have a responsibility to maintain it, improve it and remediate
contaminated land. By doing so, we help ensure the safety of our
environment and our people, and enable growth without being limited
by past activities. We also have a responsibility to ensure the
safety of travellers and airline partners, so understanding the
hazards and addressing the risks of bird strike is a critical and
ongoing activity.
Our three main focus areas towards land relate to:
- Wildlife Hazard Management - minimising the interaction between
wildlife and aircraft
- Contaminated Land Management - responsibly managing
historically contaminated areas (such as landfills and borrow pits)
and where possible, developing them into usable commercial
land
- Looking after our ecologically significant sites - managing
these areas to ensure they
can continue to function as healthy ecosystems
Our Priorities
INTEGRATED WILDLIFE HAZARD MANAGEMENT
- Manage new developments to minimise birdstrike risk
- Focus management on key risk species
PROTECTING FUTURE USE FROM PAST ACTIVITIES
- Contaminated land remediation and options
- Standardise rules for developing contaminated land areas
MANAGING REMNANT SITES OF ECOLOGICAL
SIGNIFICANCE
- Survival and protection of Dry Plains Grassland
- Identify site boundaries
